Hey Fellow Researcher!

You're probably neck-deep in AI these days – image processing, computer vision, robotics... it's all the rage. But I want to share a cautionary tale: 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝘁 𝗔𝗜 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿.

Imagine you're obsessed with the latest deep learning model, more focused on the algorithm than the delicate dance of plant-environment interactions. You're playing a dangerous game. AI is not here to 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱 you; it's here to 𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦 you.

Your supervisors might push you towards AI, but their obsession is often driven by grant proposals, not your future. 𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲. Insist on real science, projects that challenge your understanding of the natural world, and learning experiences that go beyond the latest AI buzzwords.

𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴? You wrestled with the complexities of code, learning the underlying principles. That struggle built a foundation you still rely on today.

𝗗𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗲. You're not a "data scientist"; you're an "agricultural data scientist," using those tools to solve your problems. You're an expert in 𝘢𝘨𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦, not a generic AI specialist.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗜 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲, 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺. 𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 if we remember who we are and what makes us truly valuable. You are a unique blend of knowledge, experience, and intuition – a handcrafted masterpiece, like a P e r s i a n rug.

𝗙𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗶𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲. What can you do that AI cannot? How can you use your unique perspective to solve the challenges facing agriculture? The future of agriculture depends on your authentic expertise, not your ability to tweak hyperparameters.

𝗦𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵, 𝗳𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲.
