ISHKUR

ISHKUR is a wireless LoRa-to-WiFi gateway. The ISHKUR gateway passes sensor data from wireless sensor nodes to the computer. The gateway also has an IoT-enabled working mode, in which it connects to the Internet and stores sensor data in a cloud-based database. In combination with EnviTronics wireless sensor nodes and SHUSHAN CVI-Wireless software, the ISHKUR gateway can be used to create a local star wireless sensor network in a few hours. You can use the SHUSHAN CVI software to directly connect to the gateway over WiFi or via its USB port for easy configuration and computer-based visualization and logging of data. The SHUSHAN CVI can also be used to download historical data that are stored on the cloud-based database or display near real-time sensor data as they become available. Cloud sensor data is also available through a REST API. The gateway has a simple communication protocol, which can be used to access sensor data and settings using custom-designed hardware and software making it an ideal choice for IoT applications.

Note: The ISHKUR gateway has two main models: G-WF and G-IT. The G-WF model can be used to create a local network (no IoT feature). The G-IT model has an additional IoT-enabled working mode.

Set Up Wireless Sensor Network in Minutes

Just place your EnviTronics wireless sensor nodes anywhere in the field you desire and turn them on. The ISHKUR gateway can automatically detect any active EnviTronics Lab wireless sensor nodes. No configurations required and it can be operated out of the box with its default settings. This means you can create a wireless sensor network (star topology) in minutes and start collecting data!

Monitor Data on a Webpage

The ISHKUR gateway acts as a transparent bridge that receives formatted (comma-separated strings) sensor data (calibrated, temperature-compensated along with battery voltage and sensor meta data) from EnviTronics wireless sensor nodes, and passes them (over USB or WiFi) to your hardware or software of choice. This means that you can collect and display data from a large network of EnviTronics sensors by connecting the gateway to your computer or Raspberry Pi board and run a software that that can parse the data. A great software example that is capable of doing this is Node-RED. We have a complete guide on how you can use EnviTronics sensor adapters to do "Real-Time Monitoring of Data from Multiple Sensors on a Webpage using Node-RED". The ISHKUR gateway works very similar to EnviTronics sensor adapters.

IoT-enabled Gateway: Remote, Secure Access to Sensor Data

The ISHKUR gateway (G-IT model) is IoT-enabled and stores sensor data in the cloud rather than a local computer. The data is accessible remotely from anywhere in the world via the secure SHUSHAN CVI-Wireless application. A REST API (Application Programming Interface) is also available for easy access to sensor data and integration into third-party platforms or custom-designed interface. You can collect data from up to hundred sensors in the same network using the same gateway and use a low-cost data service to access data remotely. The ISHKUR G-IT gateway connects EnviTronics wireless sensor networks to the Internet, and a simple data plan makes it easy to download historical data or monitor near real-time measurements at no additional costs. There are no set up or hidden fees. The data plan is an annual contract that provides almost unlimited access to sensor data per device per month and multiple users can remotely access sensor data using the same data plan.

Dedicated Monitoring and Configuration Software

To give the user the best experience, we have developed a graphical user interface called SHUSHAN CVI to work with the ISHKUR gateway. Here are some of the features of the SHUSHAN CVI:

Logging and Monitoring of Soil Moisture, EC & Temperature

The SHUSHAN CVI can work together with the ISHKUR gateway and EnviTronics Lab wireless sensor nodes (e.g. SHINAK 4P-LR and ISHTAR 1P-LR) to log and visualize  measurements in real-time from a large network of sensors (e.g. APAS T1 soil water moisture sensor, or HITA E0 electrical conductivity probe). Recorded data are available in text format (csv) and can be easily exported to a spreadsheet like Excel.

Configuration Utility

The SHUSHAN CVI can be used to upload new settings (e.g. WiFi network information, gateway working mode, and radio settings) into the gateway.

Software Calibration and Temperature Compensation

By default, EnviTronics wireless sensor nodes automatically apply calibration coefficients to sensor readings to compensate for temperature change and to account for the soil type. As an option, the SHUSHAN CVI can be used to apply extra layers of calibration and compensation to measurements in real-time.

Easy Pole or Wall Mount

The ISHKUR gateway comes with all the required hardware accessories that allow it be used in a tabletop configuration or two different wall-mount configurations. Additional hardware (pole mounting brackets) is available upon order to mount the gateway securely to a pole.

Simple Communication Protocol for Interfacing with Computer or Raspberry Pi

In applications where sensor data need to be accessed by a third party software/hardware or in IoT applications, the user can communicate with the ISHKUR gateway using simple command lines. Popular single-board computers and microcontroller boards such as the Raspberry Pi, BeagleBone and Arduino among others, can easily obtain sensor measurements from the ISHKUR gateway via its USB port.

Applications

Moisture and temperature are recognized as important variables that influence plant productivity in both agricultural and natural ecosystems. Continuous monitoring of soil/substrate moisture is very important in different areas of science and engineering such as hydrology, soil science, geotechnical, ecology, meteorology, agronomy and controlled environment agriculture. Accurate soil moisture measurements are necessary tools in precision irrigation and water management. Substrate temperature is also a useful parameter in monitoring crop growth and can also be used for correcting moisture measurements. Soil moisture measurements can be used by farmers and researchers to determine water deficit and to specify the amount of water needed by plants.
